Solar Cooker Update (Making Progress!)

Hey guys, Kyle here again! This particular post will talk about my group's progress on our solar cooker.

So far we've built the frame for our fresnel lens and we've built the supports to hold it over our pot (once we have acquired a pot). I've learned that it's really quite tedious to cut a piece of wood with a manual saw, and it's helpful to have help cutting. 

As you can see, our design features two wooden supports with slots cut into them that are just wide enough to hold our fresnel lens. The pot will be nestled in the styrofoam below the lens, and hopefully the light will reflect down through the lens and heat up the food inside the pot. 

We're doing this project to see if we can create an effective solar cooker that can be mass produced and sent to third world countries (like Haiti). We're also doing the to help those people in those countries. We know it's hard and we want to help them.

Solar Cooker (First Post)

My first post on here is for a class project I'm doing. I think it's really cool and I think you're gonna love it! In about 2-3 weeks time, a couple of friends and I are gonna have to build a solar cooker (if you don't know what a solar cooker is then here's a link). It has to cook food (obviously) and not burn it (obviously). After everyone refines their design we're gonna have to cook food for our school. 

My favorite design for a solar cooker is called the box design. You put the food inside the box through an opening on the front of the box and put the lens over that opening when you're ready to cook it. The lens that I like the most is called a fresnel lens (if you don't know what a fresnel lens is, then get educated). It's probably the fastest solution for cooking.
